We have put together this guide on cleaning and maintenance of your timber laminate floors to ensure your floors stay looking as good as the day they were installed. Usually, regularly sweeping or vacuuming with a soft brush attachment to remove abrasive dirt is all your floors will need every day. For deeper cleaning, use a damp microfibre mop with water or a pH-neutral cleaner, ensure the mop is well-rung to prevent moisture damage. Spills should be cleaned up immediately as moisture can seep into the joints and cause the core to swell or warp. Avoid steam cleaners or harsh chemicals to protect the wear layer.

Cleaning Methods

  • Daily sweep, dry mop, or vacuum (be sure to use hard floor setting to prevent scratches).
  • Use a microfiber mop that is only slightly damp. The floor should dry within 1–2 minutes of cleaning.
  • Use a home made cleaning solution, for a streak-free cleaner, mix one part white vinegar with three parts warm water in a spray bottle.
  • For deeper cleaning use a specialised, pH-neutral laminate cleaner, or a simple mixture of water, vinegar, and a small amount of dish soap does the same job.

Tips and Precautions

  • Avoid excess water or flooding, as moisture can seep into the joints.
  • Do not use abrasives like scourers, steel wool, abrasive cleaners, even stiff bristle brushes can damage the finish.
  • Use felt pads under furniture, and rugs in high-traffic areas will help with uneven wear.
  • Do not use Waxes or polishes, as they can ruin the laminate surface.

For the best results, clean up spills immediately, use a microfiber mop that can be easily washed, and always mop in the direction of the wood grain for a seamless, streak-free look.
